Developing the draft policy for responsible tourism with the support of the Germany based Hanns Seidel Foundation; Tourism Best Practice Guidelines will be illustrated by cartoons and distributed in booklets. Opening of the working session for this project was held at the Amara Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw Hotel Zone and Deputy Minister for Ministry of Hotels and Tourism U Htay Aung delivered the opening address.
In his address, Deputy Minister said Ministry of Hotels and Tourism was successfully held the Responsible Tourism workshops in Nay Pyi Taw from February 21 to 23, 2012 at Myanmar International Convention Center. Master Plan for Myanmar Tourism is also implementing with the assistance of Norwegian Government and Asian Development Bank. The Ministry is working with the tourism related Ministries and private sector to raise awareness of responsible tourism concepts among the industry stakeholders and put its most sound principles into practice.
This project is interesting that tourism best practice guidelines illustrated by cartoons. The Ministry has also published and distributed a booklet called “A guide to travel in the Union of Myanmar “. In this booklet, we put the subtitles such as religious customs, cultural norms, guidelines for safety and security, visiting villages, custom duty, antiquities, lodging, minors (children), and means of transport, foreign exchange and environmental protection, wildlife protection, preservation and conservation of historical heritage and economic impact on the local community. Deputy Minister also said, nothing is perfect and it is also needed to add in accord with the prevailing circumstances.
After that, Dr. Andre Valentin, tourism consultant from Germany explained the publishing of the cartoon booklets with power point presentation.
Also present the occasion with the Deputy Minister were Managing Director of Myanmar Hotels and Tourism Services and senior officials and responsible persons from Myanmar Tourism Federation, Nay Pyi Taw Hotel Zone and tourism related ministries.
